The working group “Affective economies and audiovisual media” analyses essential research questions of the CRC in order to clarify and develop them further. We assume that audiovisual media plays a central role in affective exchange processes within social constructs. We therefore attempt to closer define affective dynamics actualised in audiovisual media settings. How do media operate in processes of cultural self-reflection? How are feelings of commonality, belonging and separation formed, and how do they change? How is the circulation of media formats connected to the affective mobilization and modulation of such feelings? How do these transactions relate to the corporeality of individuals? These questions require an approach that allows us to map the macro perspective of social change onto the micro perspective of concrete events of affecting and being affected (Affizierungsgeschehen). The working group aims to develop such an approach.
