On 7th and 8th of February 2019 the workshop "Language and Law: Engaging with the Field" took place at the University of Jyväskylä, Finnland. Jonas Bens participated and held a presentation called "Critique in Unexpected Places: On Critical Ethnography in Law and Language Research."

On the 13th of November 2018 Jonas Bens held a presentation called "Politische Strafverfahren und ihr Publikum: Affektive Atmosphären und das Problem der Mehrfachadressierung in Verfahren des Internationalen Strafgerichtshofs in Den Haag und Norduganda" at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU). The presentation was part of the series "Werkstattgespräche" of the Law & Society Institute Berlin.

On the 23rd of October 2018 Jonas Bens presented parts of the research findings of Project B04 in the colloquium of the Department of Anthropology and African Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz.

On August 14th 2018 Jonas Bens presented a paper at the 15th EASA biennial conference. The conference took place from 13th to 15th of August in Stockholm and was themed "Staying, Moving, Settling".

Presentation at the Capacious Conference 2018

The Conference "Capacious: Affect Inquiry/Making Space" took place from the 8th to the 11th of August at the Millersville University's Ware Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Jonas Bens presented a paper as part of the stream "Affective Witnessing", organized by Kerstin Schankweiler (B01) and Michael Richardson.

Presentation at the 5th EPSSE conference

From the 13th to the 15th of June the 5th Annual Conference of The European Philosophical Society for the Study of Emotions (EPSSE) took place in Tallinn. The CRC 1171 had organized a panel with the topic "Dynamics of Sociality in a World in Motion: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Affective Societies". Four members of the CRC presented papers, among them Jonas Bens.

Long Night of the Sciences 2018

The Long Night of the Sciences 2018 took place on the 9th of June, with about 70 participating teaching and research institutes in Berlin and Potsdam. The Working Group "Affect, Emotion, and the Political" of the CRC 1171, coordinated by Jonas Bens, participated as well and presented interested visitors their research.

On the 24th of May 2018 Jonas Bens presented a paper at the conference "Hass/Literatur". The conference was organised by project C04 of the CRC 1171 and took place in Berlin from the 24th to the 26th of May 2018.

Presentation at the conference "Public Emotions: Affective Collectivity in Audiences"

On the 5th of May 2018 Jonas Bens presented a paper co-authored by Olaf Zenker at the third international conference of the Collaborative Research Center "Affective Societies: Dynamics of Social Cohesion in Mobile Worlds." The conference took place at the Freie Universität Berlin under the title "Public Emotions: Affective Collectivity in Audiences."

Presentation at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology

On the 15th of February 2018 Jonas Bens presented a paper at the international conference "Punishment: Negotiating Society" at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle/Saale. The conference took place from 14.-16. February and was organized by the International Max Planck Reserach School on Retaliation, Mediation, and Punishment (REMEP).

Jonas Bens and Olaf Zenker presented the work of the research project B04 in a panel entitled "Affects of Justice: Ethnographies of Emotion, Sentiment and the Law" at the annual conference of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), which took place from 29.11. to 03.12.2017 in Washington D.C.

"Anthropology and Law - a Conversation" at the Law & Society Institute Berlin

On the 24th of October 2017 the event "Anthropology and Law - a Coversation with Mark Goodale" took place at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU Berlin). The event was part of the Law & Society Lecture Series of the Law & Society Institute Berlin and was dedicated to the recently published monograph "Anthropology and Law: A Critical Introduction" by Mark Goodale. Jonas Bens commented on the chapter "Law and the Fourth World".

The conference "Belonging: Affective, Moral and Political Practices in an Interconnected World" by the German Anthropological Association (GAA) took place in Berlin from the 4th to 7th October 2017.

On the 14th of July 2017 Jonas Bens presented a paper at the international conference "Image Testimonies: Witnessing in Times of Social Media" in Berlin. The conference was organized by the project B01 "Affective Dynamics of Images in the Era of Social Media" of the CRC "Affective Societies".

The seventh European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) with the title “Urban Africa - Urban Africans: New encounters of the rural and the urban” took place in Basel from 29th of June to 1st of July 2017. Olaf Zenker and Jonas Bens organized a panel called "Sentiments of Justice in Africa: Contestations at the Intersection of Rural and Urban Imaginations“, which focused on Sentiments of Justice, the central object of research of project B04.

Long Night of the Sciences 2017

The Long Night of the Sciences 2017 took place on the 24th of June 2017, with 71 participating teaching and research institutes in Berlin and Potsdam. In a presentation called "Gerechtigkeitsgefühle und Outreach des Internationalen Strafgerichtshofs in Norduganda“ Olaf Zenker and Jonas Bens presented the research of project B04 as part of the program at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Presentation at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology in Göttingen

On the 1st of June 2017 Jonas Bens presented a paper entitled "Die Sentimentalisierung von Menschen und Dingen: Die Zerstörung von Weltkulturerbe vor dem Internationalen Strafgerichtshof" at the colloquium of the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology in Göttingen.

Workshop „Evidence of Feeling: Law, Science, and Emotion in Modern European Legal Culture“

On the 10th and the 11th of April 2017 the Research Center “History of Emotions” at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin organized a workshop entitled "Evidence of Feeling: Law, Science, and Emotion in Modern European Legal Culture“. Jonas Bens participated and presented his paper „The Politics of Sentiment: Narrating Histories of Justice and Indignation“.

Lecture and Reading Seminar with Adam Branch

On 8 and 9 February 2017 we were able to welcome Prof. Dr. Adam Branch, University Lecturer at the Department for Politics and International Studies der University of Cambridge, as a guest at the Freie Universität Berlin. At the invitation of Prof. Dr. Olaf Zenker, head of sub-project B04 at the CRC “Affective Societies” and the Political and Legal Anthropology Working Group at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, he joined us for an evening lecture and a workshop.

The conference “Crises: Reconfigurations of Life, Power and Worlds” by the German Anthropological Association (GAA) took place in Marburg from the 30th of September to the 3rd of October 2015. Olaf Zenker and Jonas Bens of project B04 organized a panel entitled "Gerechtigkeits-Gefühle. Zur emotionalen Re-Formation nach Krisen und Konflikten“.

The 6th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) took place in Paris from the 8th to the 10th of July 2015 under the headline ”Collective Mobilisations in Africa: Contestation, Resistance, Revolt“. Olaf Zenker of project B04 together with Gerhard Anders of the University of Edinburgh organized a panel entitled „Representation, Participation and Punishment: Contesting Justice in Africa“.
