Migrant Melodramas and Culture Clash Comedies: Creating a Turkish-German Sense of Commonality
The project examines from a media studies perspective, how films, TV shows, and web videos work on creating and modulating a Turkish-German sense of commonality. We assume that before looking at representations of a supposed Turkish-German reality, one has to study the way these media formats situate themselves with regard to the dominant audiovisual culture. That means, we want to analyze how these media formats appropriate the affect poetics of globally circulating genres to define a particular place in popular culture. On this basis it becomes possible to readjust the relation between the public discourse on migration on the one hand and the production of audiovisual images on the other hand.
