Simon Koschut is Professor of International Security Policy at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany. His research interests are international relations, in particular regional security governance, norms and emotions in world politics. Previously, he was a DFG Heisenberg fellow and visiting professor at Freie Universität Berlin, Fritz Thyssen Fellow at Harvard University's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Fulbright Scholar at San Francisco State University, and Assistant Professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. His Habilitation was awarded with the Ernst Otto Czempiel Prize 2018 from the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) for the best postdoctoral monograph in peace and conflict research. His contribution to the emotional underpinnings of power in international politics received the Best Paper Award from the German International Relations section. In 2023, his course “Psychology of International Diplomacy” was acknowledged with the Zeppelin University Teaching Award. Koschut served as spokesperson for the German Political Science Association (DVPW) Working Group “Norm Research in International Relations” from 2017-2020. Since 2021, he is co-spokesperson of the DVPW Section “International Relations”. Together with Christian von Scheve, he is the co-editor of the book series “Emotions in Politics and Society” (Nomos).
