In this talk I will examine the affect of enthusiasm as a strong affect belonging to the political realm characterized by three features: it is a form of insanity; it is ignited by spectacles of formlessness and it witnesses an impossibility to represent and is therefore close to the feeling of the sublime. Expressed in language enthusiasm can take the form poetic and abject disruptions of symbolic structures. My talk will display examples from my research on contested heritage issues, for example #RHODESMUSTFALL.
