Affects - Media - Power

Project B02 “Transcultural Emotional Repertoires in and through Reality TV” within the CRC 1171 “Affective Societies” of Freie Universität Berlin and the German Association of Communication Research (DGPuK) division “Sociology of Media and Communication” jointly organize a conference under the title "Affects - Media - Power" from June 29th to July 1st in Berlin.

Public Spheres of Resonance: Constellations of Affect and Language

The 2nd International Conference of the CRC 1171 "Affective Societies" questions normative conceptions of contemporary public spheres and proposes to conceive of them as often fragmented spaces of affective resonance that emerge from the power of language to affect and to ascribe and instill collective emotion.

Lecture and Reading Seminar with Adam Branch

On 8 and 9 February 2016 we were able to welcome Prof. Dr. Adam Branch, University Lecturer at the Department for Politics and International Studies der University of Cambridge, as a guest at the Freie Universität Berlin. At the invitation of Prof. Dr. Olaf Zenker, head of sub-project B04 at the CRC “Affective Societies” and the Political and Legal Anthropology Working Group at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, he joined us for an evening lecture and a workshop.

Affective Relationality

Presenting international case studies and theoretical contributions from the fields of social and cultural anthropology, sociology, cultural geography and culture and media studies, the first International Conference of the CRC 1171 "Affective Societies" gives shape to affective relationality as a fundamental dimension of human reality.
