Jan Slaby, Birgitt Röttger-Rössler – 2018

The aim of this introduction is to motivate and explicate the overall orientation on affect as transpersonal relational dynamics formative of and transformative for both individuals and collectives. The text will reinvigorate the particular ‘promise’ the study of affect holds in store, and will outline different theoretical and disciplinary perspectives that coalesce to build up this innovative approach. Emphasis is placed on an interrelated web of working concepts – among them relationality, affective practice and affective arrangement – that will figure prominently in the chapters to follow. The second half of the introduction expounds the four thematic sections of the book – Affective Families, Affect and Place, Affect at Work, and Affect and Media – and briefly outlines the 12 chapters.
