Lecture Series by the Berlin Institute for Integration and Migration Research and the CRC Affective Societies

Processes of current border-crossing mobility engender diverse modalities of affecting and being-affected. The series of lectures with the title “Mobility Affects” – starting in November 2020 in an online format – aims to analyze the manifold affective dynamics in the postmigrant society from interdisciplinary points-of-view. The title “Mobility Affects” implies an explicitly broad perspective which includes the views of migrant peoples while traveling and the multifaceted modes of affecting and being-affected in the contexts of both ‘origin’ and ‘arrival’. Several of the lectures will also make reference to the findings of the (Critical) Research of Migration and Integration. In that way, the series of lectures will importantly contribute to the scientific analysis of affective dynamics in the current society. These debates about affectivity/emotionality in the context of postmigration and diversity are of course also relevant in public discourses. That combination of expertise of the Berlin Institute for the Empirical Research of Migration and Integration (BIM) at the Humboldt Universität Berlin and the SFB “Affective Societies” at the Freie Universität Berlin in a common series of lectures promises a valuable contribution to these debates. The event will be open to the public. Online talks and discussions will be held – according to the preferences of the presenters – in either English or German.
