Theories and Methods Workshop

The overall goal is to reshape research on emotion and affect in the social sciences and cultural studies in a way that integrates existing and develops new methods for theoretically based empirical research on phenomena of human affectivity and emotionality in social life. The CRC’s work on concepts and the development of theories will be tightly entangled with empirical research, and methods and techniques will be applied in ways that permit their systematic advancement. The relational understanding of affect and emotion provides the initial orientation. This is joined by the qualitative methods for research on emotion from sociology, social anthropology, cultural studies, and media studies that have been tested in numerous pilot studies.
