Administrative judges face special challenges in asylum proceedings. The high relevance of the proceedings in terms of fundamental rights is accompanied by numerous challenges in the decision-making process, such as linguistic barriers during the hearing and difficulties in classifying and evaluating the facts presented by the asylum seekers and the country-specific evidence. In addition, the judges entrusted with asylum proceedings are under great strain. Currently, about 300,000 asylum cases are pending at German administrative courts. At the Administrative Court of Braunschweig, about 2400 asylum cases are currently pending; all judges of the court are also involved in asylum cases.
