Koschut, Simon (Hrsg.) – 2020

This book argues that the link between emotions and discourse offers a new and promising framework for the theoretical and empirical analysis of power relations in world politics. By examining the ways in which discourse evokes, reveals and incorporates emotions, the experts argue that emotions are not irrational forces but have a pattern that underpins social relations. However, these are also power relations, and their articulation as socially constructed forms of feeling and expressing emotions constitutes a key force that either maintains or challenges the social order. This volume goes beyond the "emotions matter" approach and offers concrete ways to integrate consideration of emotions into existing research. It offers a novel integration of emotions, discourses and power, showing how discourses of emotion establish, assert, challenge or reinforce power and status differences. The book is particularly useful for university researchers, doctoral students and advanced undergraduate students engaged in the study of emotions and discourse analysis in international relations.
