International workshop "Transforming Parents: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Parenting in Immigrant Contexts"
Supporting, educating, and supervising parents in their task of child-rearing has become a major concern of social policy in most European countries. Parenting interventions are particularly challenging in contexts of pronounced social and cultural diversity, resulting, for example, from migration. The task to ensure certain juridical or pedagogical standards and the ambition of acting in a culturally sensitive manner may give rise to multilayered misapprehensions, frictions, and dilemmas and provoke deep affective tensions between the different actors. The workshop brings together scholars and practitioners from different disciplinary backgrounds to discuss the normative dimensions, affective dynamics, and challenges of parenting support in immigrant contexts.
