Schütze, Stephanie – 2017

This dossier explores ‘spaces of belonging’ that migrants from Mexicoand their descendants establish in the United States. Here ‘belonging’ is understood as a process by which migrants appropriate space by their everyday activities in diverse migration contexts and life situations (De Certeau 1998; Pollini 2005). Based on ethnographic and micro-sociological research, the dossier seeks to highlight the diversity of the circumstances in migrants’ localities of origin and residence, the historical period of their migration, their motivations, their cultural and economic resources, as well as the policy contingencies at the time of their migration.
