Student Research Assistant Wanted for SFB Affective Societies TPD02

The student research assistant position is located at the Journalism Department at the Institute of Media and Communication Studies and is part of the Collaborative Research Center "Affective Societies." The project investigates the role of affects and emotions in public debates about the future of contemporary societies from a social, cultural, and humanities perspective. The SHK will support the research team in the project "Contested Order of Emotions: (Anti-)Feminist Discourses in Social Media," which focuses on the affective dynamics of textual and visual communication in the field of (anti-)feminism from a communication studies perspective.
Responsibilities:
Assistance in research, particularly:
• Conducting literature research and maintaining the literature database (Zotero)
• Recording or storing research materials according to project-specific data management conventions
• Assisting with data cleaning and coding of analytical materials
• Proofreading and editorial support for publications, especially in creating and editing bibliographic references
• Processing exemplary image and video materials and creating subtitles
• Creating bilingual news articles (German, English) and maintaining the website using a content management system (CMS)
Desired Qualifications:
• Studying media and communication studies, social sciences, or related fields
• Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, preferably in social media analysis
• Interest in affect theory and gender media studies
• Proficiency in using literature databases and CMS
• Basic knowledge or motivation to learn the analysis software MAXQDA and the programming language R
• Knowledge of image and video editing programs is advantageous
• Excellent German and English language skills
