We are happy to invite you the Keynote "Affective Regimes in Turkey and Beyond" by Yael Navaro. The keynote takes place in the context of our CRC Project's workshop "Affective Politics and Political Transformation in Turkey and Egypt" (December 5-6th, 2019 at Freie Universität Berlin).
Yael Navaro is Reader in Social Anthropology at the Department of Social Anthropology and Fellow and Director of Studies at the Newnham College at the University of Cambridge. She is the author of "Faces of the State: Secularism and Public Life in Turkey" (Princeton 2002) and "The Make-Believe Space: Affective Geography in a Postwar Polity" (Duke 2012).
The keynote talk studies the political incitement to nationalistically orientated affects, as well as the discouragement and criminalisation of non-nationalist affects in contemporary Turkey. It explores how the affects have become a central component of governance.
The keynote will take place on December 5th, 6-8pm at Seminarzentrum, FU Berlin. It will be followed by a reception.
