Transcultural, integrative, and racist poetics of audiovisual images – the role of media in cultural communities between Germany and Turkey
How do the affect poetics of audiovisual images relate to processes of community building? We work on this central question in three case studies and three different perspectives, building on our research on the so-called “Turkish German cinema”. The spectrum of poetic approaches that we analyze extends from strategies of integration to aggressive demarcation; the spectrum of subjects extends from German TV series to international arthouse cinema and election advertising. The goal of our project is to develop a concept of audiovisual culture that helps us understand the constitution of communities as a dynamics of competing communities of taste.
