In the lecture “Beyond arguments? Affect-theoretical concepts of public spheres using the example of (anti-)feminist discourses”, the role of emotions in (anti-)feminist discourses was discussed as well as affect-theoretical approaches to researching and conceptualizing public spheres with reference to the concept of affective publics and queer-feminist critiques of the public sphere. On the basis of an exemplary explorative analysis of a meme that circulated on TikTok in the context of Roe vs. Wade, this affect-theoretical perspective was illustrated and made analytically fruitful. The lecture was one of three in a panel on “Fear, Exclusion and Affect in Dissonant Public Spheres”.
