The Theories and Methods Workshop is the core of the collective research effort at the Collective Research Centre Affective Societies working towards a re-orientation in the field of emotion and affect research in social and cultural studies. The workshop aims at the development of innovative methods guided by a theory-driven empirical approach while emphasizing reflexive and ethnographic methodology as well as artistic-aesthetic methods.

In this framework, Paola Ivanov, Jonas Bens, and Laibor Kalanga Moko discussed the methodological aspects of their research on June 11, 2021. The discussion tackled central methodological questions regarding the relationship between affect and materiality, as well as the possibilities brought on by remote ethnography.
