Ahmet Ferhat Özkan is lecturer of modern Turkish literature at Necmettin Erbakan University, Turkey, and he joined to the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies in February 2022 as a visiting postdoctoral researcher. He is in search of an affective understanding of Turkish literature and intellectual/political history within the theoretical framework of emotion studies. His PhD thesis focuses the very first examples of the Turkish novel from 1872 to 1901 tracing the question whether the emotions/affects modernized or westernized along with the thoughts in the late Ottoman period. His postdoctoral research project in Affective Societies Center, which is the sequel to his PhD, focuses on the New Language (Yeni Lisan) and New Life (Yeni Hayat) movements of Turkish literature and thought in order to understand the affective background of the Turkish Republic. Özkan is also a fiction writer (Logosoloji and Yoksunlar), and editor-in-chief for Jaguar Kitap, Istanbul based independent publishing house.
